The article collection “Draustosios spaudos pėdsakais” (In the Track of the Forbidden Press) was issued at the end of the year 2011. The articles were published during the last twenty years of Silvija Vėlavičienė’ (1941–2011) intense activity in the National Library.
The texts reveal essential changes in press and publishing, determined by political processes related to regaining freedom of speech, collapse of press censorship, returning of cultural heritage of Lithuanian emigration.
The book also witnesses historical events of the end of the XX c. – the beginning of the XXI c. in the National Library, presenting in details processes related to formation and promotion of Lithuanian emigration press collection. It is illustrated with documentary photos, bibliography of S. Vėlavičienė is included.
Compiler of the book is Jolanta Budriūnienė, publishing of the book was supported by Donatas Januta from U. S., the National Fund, located in New York, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania. Design of the book was created by a good friend of S. Vėlavičienė, artist Elona Marija Ložytė.
The article collection will undoubtedly be a valuable resource for researchers of Lithuanian emigration press, humanitarian students and those who are interested in published Lithuanian cultural heritage.
