After eight years of reconstruction the National Library of Lithuania was\u00a0opened to the public. After the reconstruction, the Library will continue to be dedicated\u00a0to the readers, but it will also host creative activities, projects and trainings. The
\nLibrary is going to work according to the model of the British Library.<\/p>\n

In August of 2016 I had a chance to visit the renovated Lithuanian National
\nLibrary by an invitation from the Head of the Lithuanian Studies Department Jolanta\u00a0<\/strong>Budri\u016bnien\u0117<\/strong> and the Department\u2019s Chief Researcher Dalia Cidzikait\u0117<\/strong>. The Lithuanian\u00a0Studies Department deals with collecting and showcasing books, periodicals and archival\u00a0material published by Lithuanians abroad, including Lithuanian Americans.\u00a0Mrs. Budri\u016bnien\u0117 expressed a great interest in cooperation between the Lithuanian\u00a0National Library and the Balzekas Museum which is one of the major centers of
\nLithuanians in the US.<\/p>\n

At the moment, the Lithuanian National Library makes the publications of
\nLithuanians abroad accesible to the public in the Library\u2019s reading room. I was excited\u00a0to see the latest issue of the Lithuanian Museum Review<\/em> on the top shelf among\u00a0other publicatios of emigre Lithuanians.Chief specialist Dalia Cidzikait\u0117 showed me the holdings of the Lithuanian\u00a0Studies Department. The archives hold books, periodicals and archival material including\u00a0those that belonged to famous Lithuanians, such as Stasys\u00a0Lozoraitis. Ms Cidzikait\u0117 pointed out that books published by<\/p>\n

Americans of Lithuanian descent, such as their memoirs and\/or fiction\u00a0are very welcomed at the Lithuanian National Library. Those\u00a0interested in donating are asked to contact Ms Cidzikait\u0117 at dalia.<\/em>
\ncidzikaite@gmail.com<\/em>.\u00a0The National Library has a variety of virtual exhibits
\nwhich might be of great interest to the readers. One such exhibit<\/a>\u00a0might be of particular interest as it deals with material published\u00a0in foreign press during 1990, the year of restoration of Lithuania\u2019s\u00a0independence.<\/p>\n
