Galdikas\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On September 22, the National Library of Lithuanian invited film fans to spend an hour in the jungles of Indonesia with <strong>Birut\u0117 Marija Filomena Galdikas<\/strong>, a Lithuanian-Canadian\u00a0anthropologist,\u00a0primatologist,\u00a0conservationist,\u00a0ethologist and author. \u201cMy real home is where my heart is\u2014in the Kempliky National Park,\u201d says one of the most famous anthropologists of the time, Dr. Galdikas. Although she rarely visits Lithuania, Galdikas always emphasizes her Baltic origin and love for her parents\u2019 homeland.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3090\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.lnb.lt\/lituanistika\/files\/2017\/12\/Galdikas-300x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.lnb.lt\/lituanistika\/files\/2017\/12\/Galdikas-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/blog.lnb.lt\/lituanistika\/files\/2017\/12\/Galdikas-250x250.png 250w, https:\/\/blog.lnb.lt\/lituanistika\/files\/2017\/12\/Galdikas.png 504w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 85vw, 300px\" \/>In Indonesian tropical forests, Dr. Galdikas has spent more than 40 years studying and preserving \u201cthe last great monkey living in the trees.\u201d During these years, the orangutans have almost disappeared due to the heavy logging and hunters who sell animals to individual buyers, as well as zoos or laboratories.<\/p>\n<p>A few years ago, <strong>Neringa Skrudupait\u0117<\/strong>, a journalist and traveler, visited the Orangutan Rehabilitation and Conservation Center in Kalimantan, island of Borneo. After returning to Lithuania, she created a documentary film, \u201cReflections of Paradise according to B.M. Galdikas,\u201d about Dr. Galdikas\u2019s work with the endangered primates.
