Lithuanian American Support for Lithuania&#8217;s Independence and Recognition"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_3268\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3268\" style=\"width: 253px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3268\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.lnb.lt\/lituanistika\/files\/2018\/04\/C1B0004154445.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"253\" height=\"336\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3268\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo credit: The Balzekas Museum of Lithuanian Culture<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Lithuania\u2019s Independence, the <strong>Balzekas Museum of Lithuanian Culture<\/strong> opened a new historical exhibit\u00a0\u201cFor Freedom: Lithuanian American Support for Lithuania\u2019s Independence and Recognition.\u201d The exhibit\u00a0explores Lithuanian Americans\u2019 passionate and energetic support for the cause of Lithuania\u2019s independence one hundred years ago.\u00a0 Using photographs, documents, publications, and other historical artifacts, the exhibition gives an overview of Lithuania\u2019s fate at the dawn of the twentieth century as a subjugated part of the Russian Empire; briefly portrays the Lithuanian American communities in America; and summarizes their significant cultural, political, and financial achievements.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition\u2019s central focus is the vital role played by Lithuanian Americans as their native land seized a unique and complex opportunity to end its 125-year Russian subjugation. It demonstrates that Lithuanian Americans\u2019 support for freedom in their native land did not end with the declared independence in 1918 nor with its recognition by the United States in 1922.
