On May 5-7, 2019\nthe First World Lithuanian Writers Forum took place in Vilnius. It was attended\nby more than 30 writers, translators and literary critics from fifteen\ncountries. The program of the forum offered a variety of activities\u2014from literary\nreadings to the presentation of the anthology of world Lithuanian authors, Exodica<\/em>, to a book exhibition of the\nLithuanian \u00e9migr\u00e9 writers organized by the National Library of Lithuania. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organizers\nof the Forum aimed at achieving several goals. The first one was to get to know\neach other and share different experiences and perceptions of the world. The\nevent also commemorated the Lithuanian Press Restoration, Language and Book Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 6, the\nparticipants of the Forum visited the National Library of Lithuania. Jolanta\nBudri\u016bnien\u0117, the director of the Documentary Heritage Research Department of\nthe National Library of Lithuania, presented the writers to a wide range of library\u2019s\nactivities. She noted that the Library has become a place where more than thousand\nvarious cultural events take place every year and the space for the cultural\ndiplomacy. \u201cWe cooperate with the embassies of the Republic of Lithuania abroad,\nthe Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture. We have broadened\nthe scope of joint works and projects in the East and West. The library is a unique\nplace, because it traces the signs of cultural diplomacy. It\u2019s a place where we\nsystematically collect and house the books of Lithuanian authors published\nabroad. Today these publications are an important part of the Lithuanian\ndocumentary heritage,\u201d Budri\u016bnien\u0117 said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The writers who gathered\nat the National Library of Lithuania presented the director of the Documentary\nHeritage Research Department with their books and publications published abroad\nand in Lithuania.
