{"id":4076,"date":"2019-05-31T11:20:57","date_gmt":"2019-05-31T08:20:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.lnb.lt\/lituanistika\/?p=4076"},"modified":"2019-08-20T11:24:06","modified_gmt":"2019-08-20T08:24:06","slug":"the-baltic-diaspora-conference-in-panevezys","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lnb.lt\/lituanistika\/2019\/05\/31\/the-baltic-diaspora-conference-in-panevezys\/","title":{"rendered":"The Baltic Diaspora Conference in Panev\u0117\u017eys"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In May 2019, the\nGabriel\u0117 Petkevi\u010dait\u0117-Bit\u0117 Panev\u0117\u017eys County Public Library together with\nVilnius University Faculty of Communication organized the 20<sup>th<\/sup> international\nconference dedicated to the Baltic diaspora documentary heritage from 1944 to 2018.\nThis year, the annual event earmarked the Year of World Lithuanians. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.lnb.lt\/lituanistika\/files\/2019\/08\/2engBaltic-Diaspora-Conference_Jolanta-Budri\u016bnien\u011713-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4078\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.lnb.lt\/lituanistika\/files\/2019\/08\/2engBaltic-Diaspora-Conference_Jolanta-Budri\u016bnien\u011713-1.jpg 400w, https:\/\/blog.lnb.lt\/lituanistika\/files\/2019\/08\/2engBaltic-Diaspora-Conference_Jolanta-Budri\u016bnien\u011713-1-250x167.jpg 250w, https:\/\/blog.lnb.lt\/lituanistika\/files\/2019\/08\/2engBaltic-Diaspora-Conference_Jolanta-Budri\u016bnien\u011713-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 85vw, 400px\" \/><figcaption><strong> Jolanta Budri\u016bnien\u0117<\/strong>, head of the National Library of Lithuania Documentary Heritage Research Department, presented the paper in the conference <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The organizers of\nthe conference proposed more than ten subtopics, highlighting theoretical and\nmethodological issues when dealing with the documentary heritage, cultural and\nscientific diaspora figures and their legacy, typology of publications and\ntheir repertoire, memory institutions and collections, archives, video and\naudio, as well as preservation, actualization, and digitization initiatives,\nnew media, and the use of the diaspora documentary heritage for cultural\ncommunication. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference was\ncarried out in two sections: \u201cArchives, Collections and Obstacles in Getting\nThem (Back)\u201d and \u201cCultural Press and Literary-Historical Reminiscences.\u201d 25 presentations\nwere presented at the event. For the first time, the conference expanded its\ngeographic boundaries becoming international.
