The people who remained in the country lost the opportunity to travel freely. Soviet oppression and restrictions on freedom of movement prompted many Lithuanians to flee Lithuania. The book \u201cBreaking Through the Iron Curtain\u201d prepared by Dr. <strong>Darius Juodis <\/strong>examines the flight of the Lithuanian population from the Soviet Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The book presents several periods: the first escapes (1940-1941); the period after WWII; the partisan escapes; the flight of the Lithuanian population to the West from 1950s to 1990s and the subsequent escapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"285\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.lnb.lt\/lituanistika\/files\/2021\/04\/blog_Book_Breaking-through.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5104\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.lnb.lt\/lituanistika\/files\/2021\/04\/blog_Book_Breaking-through.jpg 285w, https:\/\/blog.lnb.lt\/lituanistika\/files\/2021\/04\/blog_Book_Breaking-through-190x300.jpg 190w, https:\/\/blog.lnb.lt\/lituanistika\/files\/2021\/04\/blog_Book_Breaking-through-158x250.jpg 158w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 285px) 85vw, 285px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Two components stand out in the structure of the book: research and the analysis of situation and a biographical description of each flight. The latter part lists the persons who successfully fled abroad.
